Faced with great opportunities in the eleventh five-year ?period and the years to come, Jiangdong district is aimed to be built into international trade center, shipping and logistic center, and finance center with exhibition, logistics, finance, intermediary service, information and creation as its six key industries. Focusing on the three centers and the six key industries, we will make determined efforts to accelerate the construction of two carriers.

Six Key Industries

The Exhibition Industry

The China International Housing and Furnishing Exposition is the largest exposition concerned nationwide. Exhibition enterprises of Jiangdong district account for more than 70% of the total in Ningbo. Depending on the construction of the Eastern New Downtown exhibition zone, Jinangdong district will fully bring into play the advantages of the exhibition center to improve exhibition service and extend its industry chain under the goal of becoming the convention and exhibition capital both in the southern flank of the Yangtze River Delta and in China.

The Shipping and Logistic Industry

Jiangdong district, the nearest area to Beilun Port in Ningbo, now assembles most of the top 20 shipping companies and a large batch of logistic enterprises. Blessed with the good foundation of the construction of electronic port and the tremendous demand in the international market, Jiangdong district is actively introducing all kinds of enterprises in the fields of international trade, shipping, logistics, agencies and so on to achieve the goal of being the main carrying area of port service in the modernized international port city¡ªNingbo

Financial Business Industry

Based on the financial settlement center in the Eastern New Downtown and the Sanjianghui finance street, Jiangdong is to strengthen the comprehensive competitive edge and extend the scale impact of famous brands by energetically introducing in finance and insurance, retail and wholesale enterprises home and abroad.

Intermediary and Consultation Industry

Great efforts will be made to introduce in legal, financial, consultatory organizations to provide pre-production service for the manufacturing base in Ningbo.

Information Industry

Jiangdong is to speed up the development of information service sector by vigorously introducing in ITO enterprises which provide support, basic frame, software, and system application sevices.

Culture and Creation Industry

Based on the Industrial Design Block and Ningbo Book City as well as the profound cultural foundation, Jiangdong district is endeavoring to encourage and support the development of cultural creation industry centered on industrial design.


Two Carriers

The Eastern New Downtown

The Eastern New Downtown, the future comprehensive district assuming the core city functions of business and administration, is situated at the geometric center of the future metropolitan Ningbo, measuring 15.85 square kilometers, including the core area of about 8.47 square kilometers. It will take on multiple urban functions, including commerce and finance, administration and management, conference and exhibition, scientific and technological consultation, public culture and upscale living communities. It is the landmark of Ningbo facing up to the world in the 21th Century.

Under the overall goal of one-year preparation, five-year formation and ten-year completion, the Eastern New Downtown will have an all-out launch on the construction of the 12 main plots of the central resort and commercial area, the international trade and exhibition area, international financial service area, international shipping service area, waterside recreational area, commercial and business area, city cultural plaza, administration area, economic development area reserved for villages, city garden residence, eastern business launching area, and removal settlement area. The project, with a total construction area of 6.04 million square meters, will cost about 35 billion RMB yuan.

Based on the 12 plots, the Eastern New Downtown highly appreciates and welcomes those investors with ability of development, investment promotion and operation. The enterprises concerning the international trade, finance & insurance and shipping logistics are also highly welcomed to the existing international convention and exhibition center, the under-construction international shipping center and the financial service center.

Five tertiary Industry Centers

The Sanjianghui Finance Street, covering an area of 0.25 square kilometers, is opposite to Tianyi Square and locates in the Sanjiangkou Area. There are CITIC Ningbo International Hotel, Ningbo Shangrila Hotel which is about to start business within the year, and large-scale comprehensive department stores. It will be built into a centralized commercial and business area with the main function of business office and financial insurance and matching functions of commerce, hotels, cultural entertainment and commercial apartments.

The East Bund Culture corridor, with a total area of 0.9 square kilometers, is to be built into a modernized concentration place of business, recreation, residence and so on. Based on the development of the workshops of Taifeng Flour Mill and former Fishing Steamship Factory, as well as the places which are rich in historic and cultural heritage such as Anqing Chamber and so on, the concentration area will harbor main functions of leisurely business, cultural innovation and tour.

The Century Oriental Plaza covers an area of 0.24 square kilometers. With a great deal of residential communities inside, the place will be built into a fashion center, integrating shopping, leisure and business, with commerce as its primary function and business as its secondary function.

The Yongdong Modern Logistic Center, covering an area of 0.55 square kilometers,? is located in Qiubi area near the Dazhujia Exit of Hangzhou-Ningbo expressway. Transcending the cultivation of logistics-featured buildings, it¡¯s planned to be built into a modern distributive logistic center relying on the professional markets such as Modern Decoration Market, Modern Shopping Mall and Century Car City.

The Upper East International Business Zone, with New Jingdu Hotel, Maritime Seaport and commercial projects such as Upper East and Auchan Supermarkets gathering, will be built into an intensified development zone of business and commerce with comprehensive functions.

Building Economy

The building economy is developing well. There are 51 buildings with an area of 1.03 million square meters available at present and 27 buildings with an area of about 1 million square meters still under construction. The electronic map of building resources provides investors with detailed information.

Based on the development and construction of the commercial buildings, Jiangdong district is endeavoring to encourage the entry of specialty service organizations concerning commerce& business, headquarter offices, R&D, distribution, finance and insurance, science & education and intermediary service. The unique buildings of Logistic Mansion and Ocean-transportation Mansion are now available for relevant chain enterprises.

Urban Industry

Along with the improvement and perfection of the city functions, Jiangdong district, the main function-carrying area of Ningbo, has absorbed in streams of information, talent and fund, as well as modern logistics, which pose as great resource conditions for the development of urban industry.

In the year 2007, the industrial economy in Jiangdong district soared through structural optimization and upgrading. The total industrial production reached 10.88 billion, and the regional industrial efficiency ranked top in Ningbo, with hi-tech production accounting for 55% of the total, which laid a good industrial foundation for the development of urban industry.

In recent years, Jiangdong district has taken an active role in developing high-tech and environmental-friendly urban industries with high additional value. Based on vacant industrial buildings and workshops, urban industries such as new hi-tech industry, food processing industry, stationery manufacturing industry, advertising printing and packing industry, jewelry and touring products manufacturing industry, electronic information industry, mold designing industry, software industry and so on.
